Christmas 2017 on the Western Downs
It was months in the planning but so very worth it for the group from ROUNDABOUT TOURS, Gympie who spent Christmas with us at Australian Country Tours in Dalby.
At the last minute the number swelled to 35 in addition to Clive and Kathy Sandison from Roundabout Tours; all of them north-coasters who were looking for camaraderie and something different at Christmas.
Clive and Kathy have been taking Christmas tours for many years so their guests knew they would be in for a lively time …
However, hosts Robert and Jane Grieve from Australian Country Tours and the Country Pathfinder Motor Inn added that little extra to their time in Dalby, welcoming them like long-lost relatives and stopping at nothing to make Christmas feel special for everyone involved.
Australian Country tours planned the group’s itinerary and paved every step of their way. Each morning started with a sumptuous smorgasbord breakfast (the tropical fruit salad made fresh each morning was a special hit) under the eaves at the Country Pathfinder. Each day ended with a meal at a different location.
The days’ tours included a guided visit to Jondaryan Woolshed one day, a tour of the Miles Historical Village another, and Christmas dinner at Meadowbank Garden Café and Function Centre. This was topped off with a visit to the marvellous Bell Catholic church with its art works and biblical garden.
Options are limited over Christmas for visits to public places, however the group was more than pleasantly occupied and entertained, with plenty of rest time allowed for r&r.
Tours organised by Australian Country Tours are tailor-made for interest groups and with the delights – hidden and otherwise – of the Western Downs in mind. There’s much to see and do here.
